Permanent Supporting Housing Services

OpenDoors moved to its new 15,000 square foot home in June 2011. With support from Rhode Island Housing, OpenDoors renovated a former ice cream factory in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Providence. The renovated mixed-use building provides 19 units of permanent supportive housing for clients as well as program and office space. OpenDoors secured over four million dollars, including two EPA grants for environmental remediation of the site, a commitment from the Neighborhood Opportunities Program for operating subsidies, full support of the City of Providence for the project, and Section 8 rent subsidy vouchers from the Providence Housing Authority. It is the only supportive housing program in Rhode Island to specifically support the successful reentry of formerly incarcerated individuals. OpenDoors’ home also is designed to meet LEED Gold building standards.
