Information for Policy Makers

OpenDoors works to reform criminal justice policies in order to help our clients become contributing members of society. OpenDoors is concerned with achieving three broad policy objectives to improve community safety:

* Increasing opportunities for offenders to prepare for release while still incarcerated;
* Removing the barriers that ex-offenders face when trying to reintegrate; and,
* Reducing crime and incarceration rates through investment in our communities.

Having built strong partnerships with community organizations, faith groups, the Department of Corrections, and the local police, OpenDoors is uniquely poised to spearhead initiatives to meet these objectives. By combining our data collection with relevant research on prisoner reentry, OpenDoors is becoming the statewide expert on issues related to crime and incarceration. Through presentations and policy reports, OpenDoors is dedicated to educating the public about the need for criminal justice reform.
